Business visa for New Zealand

If you wish to live and work in New Zealand as entrepreneur, to start your own business or to invest certain amount of money in some of the New Zealand’s economy sectors, you will need a business visa. Depending on your intention you can apply for Entrepreneur Work visa or for Investor 1 or 2 resident visas.

In order to receive the invitation to apply for Investor 2 visa you need to send the Expression of Interest (EOI) first.

Conditions for business visa

General conditions for all visas:

  • You need to meet conditions regarding character, fair business history, good health, language skills etc.

Entrepreneur Work visa:

  • You need to have an elaborate business plan with innovative and useful ideas for New Zealand’s economy.
  • You should have the capital of at least 100.000NZD which you plan to invest in your business (for innovative ideas in science and ICT sector lower amount can be considered)

Investor 2 Resident visa:

  • Your Expression of Interest should be accepted by New Zealand.
  • You should be less than 65 years.
  • You need to have 3 years of successful work experience.
  • You need to have at least 3 million NZD which you plan to invest in New Zealand in a period of 4 years.

Investor 1 Resident visa:

  • You should have at least 10 million NZD which you intent to invest in New Zealand in a period of 3 years.
  • You need to spend 44 days in each of the last 2 out of 3 years in New Zealand

Benefits of business visa

This visa allows you to start your own business in New Zealand as entrepreneur or to invest your money in some economy sector in New Zealand. Business visa also includes your partner and children. If you fulfill all conditions for Entrepreneur Work visa, you will get the opportunity to apply for Entrepreneur Resident visa which gives you permanent resident status in New Zealand.

Duration of business visa

Entrepreneur Work visa lasts for 3 years maximum, while Entrepreneur Resident visa and Investor Resident 1 and 2 visas are permanent visas.

Business visa application is conducted online through website of New Zealand’s Home Affairs.

Visa fees and processing time

Visa fee for Entrepreneur Work visa application is 3.365NZD and the average processing time is 21 months. Fee for Expression of Interest is 620NZD and the time required to consider it is 2 weeks, while visa fee for Investor 1 and 2 applications is 4.960NZD and processing time is from 27 to 29 months.
