Student visa is necessary if you wish to study on some study program in Canada that lasts longer than 6 months.
Student visa allows you to study any program you want at any of educational institutions in Canada listed on the Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) list. Student visa gives you the opportunity to bring your family with you (your kids and your partner) and the opportunity for you and your partner to work in Canada. Usually, the student is allowed to work part-time, up to 20 hours a week during the studies and a full-time during the break. Some study options allow your partner to apply for open work permit and work full-time.
Student visa is valid for the duration of study program and up to 90 days after completing your studies.
There are two ways to apply for a student visa: first one is online via website of Canada’s immigration service and the second one is in the Visa Application Centre (VAC) which can be found in most of the countries.
Visa fee for processing student visa application is 150CAD plus additional 85CAD for biometric data that needs to be provided to the nearest Visa Application Centre (VAC). The average visa processing time is around 5 weeks.
