Students coming from European Union, European Economic Area and Switzerland need to register their stay, they don’t need student visa nor residence permit. Students coming from third countries who wish to study longer than 3 months in Austria need to get national visa as well as residence permit.
Student visa for Austria enables studying in one of the traditional student destinations and gain valuable and respected degree. International students in Austria are allowed to work 20 hours per week. Students coming from third countries and students from Croatia need work permit, while students from EU/EEA and Switzerland do not need a work permit.
Student visa is valid up to 6 months after which is being replaced with residence permit which is valid for a year and can be renewed.
Student visa application is submitted at the diplomatic mission of Austria in the home country or in person in Austria if student can legally enter the country. Residence permit application is being submitted in Austria.
