Student visa for Germany is not required for student coming from member states of the European Union, European Economic Area and Switzerland, however students coming from third countries who wish to study longer than 3 months must obtain student visa. In addition, students from third countries must apply for residence permit upon arrival to Germany.
German student visa gives the opportunity to get valuable and respected degree in one of the best educational systems in the world. Program can be taught in German and English language. International students in Germany are allowed to work 20 hours per week if they come from EU/EEA and Switzerland, while third countries’ nationals can work 120 days full time or 240 days part time.
Student or national visa D could be valid up to a year, upon expiration it’s being replaced with residence permit which is valid for a year and can be renewed.
Student visa application is submitted in the German diplomatic mission in student’s home country, while residence permit application is submitted at local foreigner office upon arrival to Germany.
Visa application fee is 75 EUR. The average processing time is from 1 to 3 months, but getting an appointment in embassy could last around month or longer.
